Earthquake Updates

03/17/2011

SMC is pleased to announce that they do not expect any major impact to their North American customers after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. All of their Japanese factories are operational with the exception of Tohno and Kamaishi, which is expected to be operational shortly; the Tohno plant later this week, and the Kamaishi plant once the necessary safety checks have been completed.

In some cases, there are government mandated blackouts in Japan as well as potential delays from poor road conditions or local fuel shortages. However due to SMC's inventory in North America and global production facilities outside of Japan, including the North American headquarters in Indiana, our customers will remain unaffected for the majority of items.

SMC's management and employees remain committed to resuming all operations once all safety checks are complete. SMC's main focus remains to serve their customers for all of their pneumatic needs.

Thank you to everyone for your concern regarding the impact from the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. We have confirmed all Mitsubishi Electric employees are safe. Their head office in Tokyo, and factories in Nagoya, Fukuyama and Himeji were not damaged. We are determining the impact on the parts suppliers especially those in the northern part of Japan. There are limitations on electricity, and transportation systems are not back to normal, so it may take a few days to complete this investigation.
